FeederScout Input mask description

Brabender FeederScout

Brief description of the input mask

Validation

Before the program starts a feeder selection, it validates the data entered and checks both the com-
pleteness of necessary parameters and their limit values. Limit values are partly dependent on some
of the respective data entered in the input mask. You will get a message about all problems occurring
so that faults can be corrected. If all inputs are correct, the program will start the feeder selection.

The input mask

The input mask allows easy feeder selection by entering only a limited number of parameters so that users do not require much background knowledge about weighing and bulk ingredient technology. As a result, feeders are selected without having to specify details such as screw designs and the pertinent screw tubes, or the sizes of vibrating trays. The customer version presented here does not require any authentication. Except for the field "Name of bulk ingredient" all input fields are obligatory.

● Bulk densities exceeding the limits specified in the tooltips do not allow a selection.

● For each of the fields "Type of bulk ingredient" and "Flow characteristics" an information page is
available, which can be opened by clicking on the symbol

The information contained will help you specify the bulk ingredient. The background knowledge gained there should be used to select the proper characteristics in the drop down menu "Flow characteristics", i. e. the characteristics that in your opinion have the greatest influence on the flow behaviour of your ingredient in the feeder. It is not possible to select more than one option.

● The options in the drop down menu "Flow characteristics" depend on the respective "Type of bulk
ingredient"
selected and are restricted to a reasonable number by the program because the
correlation of flow characteristics and type of bulk ingredient is stored in the database.

● The options in the drop down menu "Grain size" depend on the type of bulk ingredient selected and
are also restricted by the program. In case of bulk ingredients with very differing particle lengths and
thicknesses, always state the highest value so that the program can determine the correct gap
between the screw and the screw tube to avoid jamming of particles.

● The "Bulk ingredient temperature" must always be chosen within the limits stored in the database
for each type of metering feeder. These limits differ from feeder type to feeder type. However,
modifications to a feeder can extend those limits. (When entered data are validated, the program
checks the entire temperature range of all feeders.)

● The inputs "Min. feed rate" and "Max. feed rate" are checked for their compliance with the limit
values of this selection program. If limits are exceeded, you will be informed accordingly.

● The checkbox "Refills" determines the number of refills for the calculation. If the checkbox is
marked (automatic refilling), the calculation is based on 20 refills per hour. In case of manual
refilling (checkbox not marked), the calculation is based on 3 refills per hour - a number that
operating personnel can easily cope with.

Note: Inputs other than the above can be entered in a more sophisticated program version internally used by the qualified process engineers from Brabender Technologie. Please contact Brabender if it is necessary to enter any extraordinary data.
